Excellent article. The issue with “inactive ingredients” is a big one. Drug companies have “inactive ingredients” that everyone knows are not inactive for all patients. Have an allergy to corn? There may be corn starch in your prescription drug. Are you sensitive to citrus? Your pill may contain citrates.
Do you get mouth sores if you use a toothpaste containing sodium laurel sulfate, as many people do? Yes, some prescription drugs contain sodium laurel sulfate. Are you lactose intolerant? That’s in some prescription drugs too. Sensitive to sugar? That’s considered inactive too.
These are just the ones I happened to notice in reading lists of “inactive ingredients” in drugs prescribed to me & my family members & friends. I’m sure there are plenty more. Companies should at least stop putting common allergens in their pills & claiming they’re inactive.
Drug companies are so big & rich & protected that they don’t have to care about the consumer any more. You can see that in how certain drug companies got rich off of aggressively pushing opioids, resulting in the current opioid crisis.
