The Trucker Blockade, the Super Bowl and Propaganda

Here’s a good thread on the trucker blockade and populism. transferred from Twitter to Thread Reader App.

It’s good, although — like almost all writing on such subjects — it doesn’t get much into the details of how this is all kept going by Right Wing propaganda.

It’s also the case that the Democratic party is the one that does the most for ordinary people. Yet populist voters and protestors shun it. Why? Because Right Wing media demonize Democrats, in order to get Trumpublicans elected.

Here’s how the problem can be solved. To fight Right Wing media and social media propaganda:

To fight Right Wing propaganda in “both sides” covering mainstream media:

It’s also essential that Democrats actually start doing competent repeated messaging, rather than expecting their achievements — that voters don’t know about — to speak for themselves. Voters also seldom know about the actions the GOP has taken that hurt ordinary people. Democrats need to tell voters these things.

Dems should start using repeated talking points on important issues. Because Democrats don’t yet use constantly repeated talking points, they have ceded the national political narrative to Republicans.

To quote from my article below: “to get adequate media coverage, Dems need to have talking points…Republicans constantly repeat themselves in talking points. Dems do not. What’s repeated is…remembered and believed.”

Here’s one more thread from Twitter, transferred to Thread Reader App. This one is about Charlie Kirk’s tweet that the Super Bowl halftime show was “sexual anarchy.”

This is a great explainer on how Right Wing disinformation works and wins elections and control for the GOP — while Democrats respond to the propaganda by laughing and poking fun at the disinformation.

Qualities like absurdity and inconsistency do NOT keep disinformation from working. We laugh at our own peril. The GOP controls SCOTUS. It picked up House seats and won far more state and local elections than Democrats in 2020— giving them massive power to suppress votes — by using such disinformation.

Here’s my own more detailed account of how propaganda works.

Because of the severity of the current danger of losing democracy, Democrats need a lot of help. They have nowhere near as many, or as big, or as well funded organizations as Republicans have. Please join me in writing liberal donors and organizations to ask for their help on this. There’s a list of them contained in this article here.

Those of you who decide to do this, thank you for your contribution to the village it takes to save democracy.

I’ll catch you good folks later.
